For more than 150 years, St. Elizabeth has been the heart and soul of healthcare in Northern Kentucky. Founded with one small hospital in 1861, St. Elizabeth Healthcare now operates six facilities throughout Northern Kentucky. St. Elizabeth also has vast resources to serve the Greater Cincinnati area, including almost 1,200 licensed beds; a physician organization, which includes more than 100 primary care and specialty office locations; 1,200 physicians with admitting privileges; nearly 7,300 associates; more than 1,200 volunteers; and three freestanding imaging centers and two ambulatory surgery centers.

St. Elizabeth’s mission is to provide comprehensive and compassionate care that improves the health of the people we serve. We accomplish this through state-of-the-art technology and nearly 7,300 associates, led by a well-respected board and executive leadership team who love this organization and our community.

Our Task

Task

We helped identify and operationalize innovative precision medicine technologies and supporting services across the St. Elizabeth’s health system.  Our initial focus was in the area of behavioral health. St. Elizabeth has added several other key clinical areas including oncology, cardiovascular, and preventive health and continues to expand as new technologies became available.

Working with the Chief Strategy Officer and other clinical leaders, we developed a process to translate precision medicine scientific findings into clinical practice, which included incorporating pharmacogenomics testing into organizational standards of care, clinical protocols, and clinician and patient workflows. This also consisted of incorporating pharmacogenomics tests into lab ordering systems and test results in the EHR and patient portal.
