Onix Health and Life Sciences Cloud Solution Engineer

Onix is addressing the growing health and life sciences industry demand for next-generation technology by introducing a new dedicated health and life sciences division and is seeking an experienced, highly-qualified solutions engineer to join their growing health and life sciences, team.

As a Solutions Engineer, you will assist the Onix sales team by problem-solving key technical issues for our customers, creating and conducting demos to support the sales process, architecting solutions, and serving as the technical expert in the pre-sales process. You will work with Google, AWS, and other cloud partner product, sales, and engineering teams to stay on top of industry trends and devise enhancements to our health and life sciences services and solutions. You will provide product demonstrations, customer-facing presentations and writing technical statements of work as part of the sales cycle.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership, Teamwork, and Customer Interactions:

  • Work with Onix Sales Executives and Account Managers to engage with sales prospects to help achieve a “technical win” with the various decision makers/groups
  • Lead strategic discovery sessions to help customers understand the value of public cloud solutions and the value that they can provide to health and life sciences customers
  • Proactively help customers address all technical issues that may arise throughout the entire pre-sales cycle
  • Facilitate demonstrations, proof of concepts and public facing presentations
  • Support the Onix Sales team in closing health and life sciences deals
  • Support strategic customer relationships and become the technical go-to resource for answers as well as a trusted cloud advisor during the pre-sales process
  • Be a strong team player with the ability to effectively engage with colleagues across the sales continuum
  • Ability to frequently travel throughout the United States and Canada. Up to 25%

Technical Experience and Expertise:

  • Responsible for all technical scoping activities during the creation of the Statement of Work
  • Review and analyze customer architecture at the domain and product level and translate and evolve them into cloud infrastructure designs and implementations
  • Quickly architect sound cloud solutions to radically different customer environments
  • Understand and demonstrate expertise in:
    • Designing, deploying, and maintaining custom enterprise applications
    • Using a variety of cloud, healthcare technologies, and development languages
    • Determining the best migration path from legacy or on-prem applications into public cloud environments
  • Learn and maintain an in-depth understanding of current and new development technologies especially those created by Google and AWS and health care industry standards

Required Skills and Experience


Technical Experience, Training, and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ Years of proven technical leadership as a solution architect or senior developer
  • 5 Year of technical experience working in the health and life sciences field
  • In-depth understanding and the ability to demonstrate expertise in designing, deploying, and maintaining Cloud and Hybrid Cloud Environments
  • Deep understanding with web-related technologies (web applications, web services, service-oriented architectures) and network/web related protocols (HTML5). Creative problem-solving skills and a drive to solve difficult issues
  • Experience architecting and developing software for scalable, distributed systems
  • Experience with network technologies and system, security, and network monitoring tools
  • Experience in and understanding of data and information management – especially as it relates to IaaS and PaaS
  • Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols (OAuth 2.0)
  • Understanding of the public cloud market and pain points driving health and life sciences organizations’ cloud adoption
  • Good working knowledge of the technical aspects of application protocols such as HTTPS, SMTP, SSL, and DNS
  • Health and Life Sciences Specific Expertise and Experience:
    • Deep understanding of HIPAA compliance requirements and technical experience in working in or with Covered Entities
    • Understanding of the public cloud market and pain points driving health and life sciences cloud adoption
    • Understanding of and experience with the following healthcare data standards:
      HL7 and FHIR
    • Understanding of the following healthcare information technologies:
      EHRs, CDS Hooks, PHRs, Telemedicine, Remote Monitoring, Clinical Decision Support
  • Knowledge of the following healthcare information technologies:  Digital Health/ Wearables, Mobile, Dicom/ Imaging, Genomics
  • Knowledge of the following healthcare data standards: DICOM, NCPDP, IEEE
  • Knowledge of the following Regulatory and Compliance Frameworks:  FDA, FDASIA, 21 Century Cures Act, GDPR, Stark Law, and Sunshine Act
  • Awareness of healthcare payment methods (e.g. Accountable Care Organizations and Shared Saving Programs) and ICD10 Coding

Subject Matter Expertise, Leadership, and Business Acumen:

  • Support strategic customer relationships and become the technical go-to resource for answers as well as a trusted cloud advisor for health and life sciences customers
  • Ability to stay positive and motivated while under pressure

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience managing large dataset, ETL processes, and data modeling
  • Google Cloud Platform Cloud Architect Certification
  • AWS Certified Developer – Associate
